Field data that holds its position
Licensed surveyors and geospatial techs live and die by the coordinate system: a boundary, control, or as-built survey is worthless if it plots four feet off true position. Smart Site Plan reprojects your State Plane, UTM, or any EPSG-coded data to WGS84 on import, so deliverables, control points, and monuments line up against parcels, easements, and imagery without a re-survey.

Real Surveying work over Fletcher, NC, captured in the product
The old way
Reprojection lives in a desktop seat back at the office, so the crew can't sanity-check a control network or a found monument against record parcels until the data is back on a workstation. A wrong EPSG code or an assumed datum slips through and a deliverable plots feet off true position, which means a return trip to the site.
With Smart Site Plan
Your State Plane and UTM data lands on true coordinates
The data, already on the map
Drawn from 20 million open datasets, one click each. No agency portal hunting, no format wrangling.
Workflows
How Surveying work gets done
End to end, in the browser, on one map.
Boundary survey reconciliation
- 1. Import
Bring in the field-collected boundary and control as State Plane or UTM and let it reproject to true position on import.
- 2. Open Data
Add county parcels and recorded easements scoped to the view to compare your line work against record.
- 3. Measure
Check record-versus-found distances and bearings to corners with unit-aware readouts.
- 4. Draw
Lay in the boundary, setbacks, and lot lines with live length and area to confirm closure.
- 5. Export
Export the reconciled parcel as DXF for CAD and GeoJSON for the agency on Pro.
Control network and monument recovery
- 1. GPS
Track the crew live as they walk the site and recover monuments and control marks.
- 2. Photos
Pin geotagged photos of each found pin or cap to its exact coordinate for the record.
- 3. Forms
Capture monument condition, type, and recovery notes on a custom form, filling drafts offline and submitting on reconnect.
- 4. Share
Send the PLS a view-only link to the questionable corners so they are reviewed before the crew demobilizes.
As-built check and plat exhibit
- 1. Import
Load the as-built surface and features in their native EPSG and reproject onto true coordinates.
- 2. Open Data
Pull USGS contours, NHD hydrography, and FEMA NFHL flood zones for context.
- 3. Smart Query
Flag any as-built feature falling inside an easement or a mapped flood zone.
- 4. Export
Export an HD PDF plat exhibit (Personal and up) and a GeoTIFF (Pro) for the deliverable package.
What you can do
Reproject any coordinate system to true position
Import Shapefile, DXF, GeoPackage, GeoJSON, CSV, GPX, KML, or FlatGeobuf carrying State Plane, UTM, or any EPSG code and it reprojects to WGS84 on the way in. Your control points, traverse, and boundary plot exactly where they belong against the assessor's parcels, not four feet off.
Verify control and found monuments against record
Drop your control network and recovered monuments on the map next to recorded parcels and easements to confirm they tie to the right corners before you leave the site. Measure record-versus-found distances and bearings with unit-aware readouts to catch a busted closure or a misidentified pin.
Build and check the as-built in the browser
Overlay the as-built layer on aerial imagery and USGS contours, then Draw centerlines, setbacks, and lot lines with live length and area readouts to confirm geometry. Run a Smart Query to flag features outside an easement or a flood zone before the deliverable goes out.
Hand off clean DXF and GeoJSON deliverables
Pro exports points, lines, and parcels to GeoJSON, CSV, KML, Shapefile, GPX, DXF, SVG and GeoPackage, so the CAD side gets DXF and the agency's GIS gets GeoJSON or Shapefile. HD PDF plat exhibits start on Personal and GeoTIFF is on Pro, all on a known coordinate basis.
The capabilities Surveying teams lean on
Reproject on import, DXF on export
State Plane, UTM, and any EPSG code reproject to true position on import, and on Pro deliverables export back out as DXF and GeoJSON on a known basis.
Measure and Draw to record
Unit-aware distance, bearing, and area let you reconcile found geometry against recorded parcels and easements right in the browser.
Crew GPS and monument forms
Live GPS, geotagged monument photos, and offline forms keep the field crew's recovery work tied to exact coordinates.
Parcels and easements on the map
Assessor parcels, recorded easements, USGS contours, and FEMA flood zones drop in scoped to the view to check your line work against record.
In practice
Reconciling a Travis County boundary before demobilizing
Outside Austin in Travis County, Texas, a PLS imports a crew's GPS-collected boundary recorded in the Texas Central State Plane zone, and it reprojects to true position against the recorded easements and parcels added to the view. Measuring the found-versus-record distances to two corners turns up a half-foot bust on a recovered pin, and a view-only link sends the corner to the crew chief. The crew re-shoots it that afternoon, and the reconciled parcel goes out as DXF and GeoJSON without anyone driving back the next week.
What changes
- Deliverables plot on true coordinates, not four feet off from a wrong datum or EPSG code
- Control networks and found monuments get checked against record before the crew leaves the site
- No return trips caused by a coordinate-system mistake caught too late
- Clean DXF for CAD and GeoJSON for agency GIS from one reprojected source, exported on Pro
- Monument recovery, photos, and notes stay pinned to exact coordinates in the field
Surveying, answered
Yes. On import, data carrying a State Plane zone, a UTM zone, or any EPSG code is reprojected to WGS84, so it plots on true coordinates against parcels and imagery instead of feet off from an assumed datum.
